Johnathan Bridger Kline - the birthstory

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for all the love and well wishes we have received, it's so great to know how much your family and friends care. We miss you all and look forward to the next time we get to hang out.

I also wanted to share with you the birthstory of JB Kline. It was a wonder to behold in so many ways! So how did we get from the picture of a beautiful and very pregnant Caralee to the arrival of our Johnathan? QUICKLY!!!

At about 11:30pm Sunday night Caralee felt her contractions getting stronger and more consistent. Not much later she shed her mucus plug and we knew that the baby would be born that night. With Sally and Bob due to arrive on Thursday we put our contingency plan into place, and called Caralee's friend Viola at about Midnight asking her to come over and watch Nathan.

Caralee and I then set about final preparations for the hospital and laying out everything Viola would need. At around 12:30 Viola arrived and we then spent another couple hours at home waiting for 1-5-1, minute long contractions (1) every five minutes (5) for an hour (1) before getting in the car. That made it about 2:30am when we hit the road for the hospital, a short 15 minute drive. My adrenaline was flowing pretty good at this point and I managed to shave a few minutes off the commute, we pulled into the hospital and Caralee was quickly out of the car and on her way to the door. I only caught up to her as she had to stop outside for a breath during a heavy contraction.

Once inside we went to the 3rd floor where nurses quickly came to our aid, I was taking care of the registration while nurses helped Caralee to the loo. And this is when things got exciting, from the restroom I heard nurses yelling, "We need a gurney in here, we need a gurney in here!!!" I dropped my pen and ran to see what was happening. Four nurses had gathered to help Caralee onto the gurney and we ran her down the hall to a delivery room where a team had quickly started prepping. At this point there are about seven people in the room, hands flying and feet shuffling as the head nurse calls out orders and the team responds, "Get Dr. Thomas over here now!"

"She's not in right now, we need to call Dr. Matlock."

"Are you allergic to anything sweetie?"

"Get the station set with towels, clamps, there's the head!"

"Caralee, you're doing great!"

Caralee clenched my hand like I was trying to pull her out of the Niagra before she went over the falls. It was a vice grip and I'll never forget it, she wanted to push and the nurses instructed her to wait. We still didn't have a doctor in the room. The team now had everything ready and Dr. Yogam flew in to help us navigate the birth. With two pushes and lots of encouragement from a roomful of amazing nurses we never even had time to say hello to, Johnathan was born!

It was 3am which meant that he arrived only 30 minutes after getting in the car and only about 15 minutes after parking the car at the hospital! It was crazy, and Caralee did it all natually, no time for an epidural, hell, there wasn't even time for a honey stick and forget about the birth plan. In the end it turned out to be perfect, Mama and baby are doing great. We all came home together on Tuesday afternoon and we now look forward to catching up on some sleep before Gami and Papa B arrive Thursday night.

Nathan has been a terrific big brother, showering Johnathan in kisses and hugs. Enjoy all the pictures and videos and we hope that we'll soon have pics/vids to upload with you in them!

Thanks again for all of your love and support,

Matt, Caralee, Nathan, and Johnathan
